The little-known dangers of using a kettle every day

Although we use them constantly, few of us master their optimal use. From allowing limescale to build up, overfilling the kettle, and leaving it plugged in all the time, small mistakes can shorten its lifespan or alter the taste of your morning tea. Are you sure you’re using your kettle correctly?
Everyday mistakes that are often overlooked:
Overfilling.

A classic mistake! Filling the tank beyond the maximum line might seem convenient, but it’s actually dangerous: water can overflow from the spout and splash. It also overloads the automatic shut-off mechanism and causes premature wear on the seals. In short: only fill it to the correct level.

Leaving the kettle empty.
Sometimes, without realizing it, the kettle is switched on without water. Bad idea: this heats the heating element unnecessarily, risking damage. Always remember to check the water level before pressing the button.

Limestone: a silent enemy.

These often-overlooked limescale deposits reduce the appliance’s efficiency, prolong heating time, and can even slightly alter the taste of the water. Therefore, it’s essential to descale the appliance regularly (we’ll explain this later).

Small problems that are often overlooked.
A damaged cable, an unstable base, a crack… These are signs that shouldn’t be ignored. If your kettle shows any signs of weakness, it’s better to replace it than to take unnecessary risks.

Do not allow the water to stagnate.

Leaving water in the kettle for several days encourages mineral deposits and can cause unpleasant odors. The best solution? Empty and rinse it after each use.

The ideal method for hassle-free use.
Here’s the essential checklist:

Never overfill.
Use fresh water and make sure the lid is tightly closed.
Place the appliance on a stable, dry surface.
Keep the cord away from the edge of the countertop.
